Tuesday October 16th and our final match of the season against Poult Wood away and what a perfect day for golf. Wonderful weather, good company and a fine meal to finish.

Unfortunately we lost 4-2 but we had a great time and will look forward to playing them again next year

Tuesday November 6th saw 2 brave souls (Pete Langmaid and myself Terry Brister) head for the re-scheduled AKVG match at Princes GC.

The general feeling amongst those in the know was that it would be cold wet and windy. We had wind but not too strong and enjoyed a great game of golf on a marvellous links golf course. Our partners (Jeff and Steve from mid-Kent) were a delight. Neither of us excelled but we had a brilliant day with a good lunch to finish.

Friday October 5th. Lydd again at home.

Could the weather have been more perfect?

People complaining because they didn't have shorts on!

Wonderful company again and (some) really good golf. The bandits stayed at home this time and we had a respectable 3-3 draw.

I blame it on my being cut to 17 the day before!

So they almost got their revenge.

Let's see what next year brings!

Wednesday September 26th. Lydd GC. Weather was amazing for this time of year, sunny, warm and very little wind. Wonderful company and matches played in very good spirit despite a couple of players from the Ridge being asked where they hitched their horses a good time was had by all resulting in a 4-2 win for the Ridge. Lydd promise that they will get their revenge on the return leg.

6 Brave souls went to Faversham GC for an AKVG competition, Ramon, Jude, Pete Seal,Pete Langmaid, Jimmy and myself, Terry.

Fine course in excellent condition. Some of the greens were like lightning! A fine 34 for 3rd place scored by the author. Pete Langmaid pipped at the post for nearest the pin by Jude.

Tuesday 11 September and our first visit to Kingsnorth. Fine company, tricky little course but one I want to play again.

Unfortunately a 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 loss but a good day had by all. We'll get our revenge next year.

Special thanks to Jim and Alan for stepping in at such short notice

Wednesday 22nd August saw our return match at London Beach. A good start made by your captain and Vice captain with a 2 and 1 win but unfortunately we then suffered a 4-2 defeat. the again overall we did win as we had a 5-1 win at home. As usual good company some interesting golf (especially the author's first and second shots!) but another enjoyable day.

Friday 24th August. Wrinklies Trophy!

22 valiant mebers went out to do battle. This year we deicded that there would be a small prize for the winners in age categories.

50s winner was Alec Gravenell

60s winner was Pete Langmaid

70s Winner was Roda Warboys

80s winner and overall winner of Wrinklies Trophy was Geoff Wenman.

Well done to everybody and congratulations Geoff.

Ably led by Vice captain Pete Walters, there was a friendly match against Hawkhurst at home on July 20th.

The Ridge got their revenge on the home leg and beat them 4.5 to 1.5 resulting in a combined score for the 2 matches of 6.5 to 4.5.

Interesting news also came from this as Pete reports that there will be 2 of their members joining us in September with potentially another 6 on top of that.

Today July 13th saw the Vets summer Texas Scramble.

9 teams of 3 each played with usual rules.

Lovely day for golf and some good scores posted.

Winners were John Randall, Andy Wiggins and as a late substitute, Pete Langmaid with a net score of 60.

Nearest the pin on the 4th was Rod Hayes.

In secodn place were Mick Warburton, Ziggy Trzeblinski and Ramon Saiz with 64 and in third were John Carter, Rod Hayes and Pete Walters with 65.

High Elms open played on 4 July. 8 members of the ridge participated this year and as usual had a great time. There were numerous nearest the pin prizes and also hole in one prizes as well including £2000 on one of the par 3's. None of us will be changing our lifestyle as we didn't win a thing but had a good day

3rd August saw The Ridge playing Boughton GC at home in a match which has become one of the author's favourites. The result was 4.5 to 1.5 to the Ridge and played in temperatures in the 30s but with great good humour and friendship which I believe is the way this game should be played. Over the 2 matches The Ridge won 7.5 to 4.5.

Looking forward to next years matches

16th July,  5 Members went to Sweetwoods GC on a Hot Hot Hot day for an AKVG competition. Much sweat was noticed. Next time I shall order a buggy! Course in excellent condition but very hard work. No winners from The Ridge but a good meal and the discovery of a "gunners" (Ginger beer based drink)  added to the day

Friendly match against Poult Wood at home on 22 June 2018. Weather was exceptional and course very dry and hard. I was playing with Rod Warboys and we both drove about 350 yards on the 14th!

Match result was 4 wins and 2 all square but as usual played in a competitive but really friendly manner. (apart from Rod's bad jokes !) Great bunch of guys to play with and looking forward to the return in October

12 July saw 6 members invited to The Chislehurst open again. As defending champions, Rod Hayes Jude McCardle and Terry Brister gamely fought butwere unable to win again although we came a creditable 4th. Our first team were suffice to say a little lower down the order. Lovely day good company and a good meal to finish

AKVG at Chestfield. Pete Langmaid with a creditable 35 points came 3rd.

Terry Brister 33 (must try harder)

Ramon threw his toys out of pram and decided not to pl;ay the last couple of holes!

Friendly match played today, 1st June, against London Beach. Result was 5-1 to The Ridge. As usual the company was excellent, the course playing really well (give it a couple of weeks and it should be really excellent) and the golf had it's ups and downs but we all really enjoyed the match. Lunch afterwards was enormous and delicious. Many thanks to the catering staff.

AKVG match at Lydd GC on Monday 18th June) 3 entries from The Ridge. Myself Terry Brister, Pete Langmaid and Jude McCardle.

Challenging course, espescially when the wind got up but good day had by all. I could have won if I hadn't told the organisers that my handicap had gone down by 3 strokes but had a creditable 34 points. Pete scored 28 and Jude wants his kept a secret !

May 22nd saw 2 teams enter The Shrimpers Open at Mid Kent GC. Format was 4 man teams (3 of ours plus one MKGC member) and scoring was best 3 stableford scores.

We didn't win but had a really good game on a very well presented course. Company as usual was enjoyable, food was plentiful. Will return next year.

Captains away day (25 April) at West Malling. Texas scramble. Wiiners John Drogo, Pete Walters, Gary Thompson and Jim Windsor. Nearest pin Pete Walters. Good day had by all.

Friendly game played  April 12th at Hawkhurst GC.

Really enjoyable day and a very friendly group of golfers.

Unfortunately the course was somewhat waterlogged (you could feel yourself sinking in the mud when lining a shot up). This did not detract at all from the spirit in which the game was played.

Unfortunately we lost 3-2

Friendly game played today (11 May 2018) at The Ridge against Kingsnorth GC

Not played this team before and we had a really good day for it.

Weather was excellent and course in great condition

The Ridge won the match 4-2 although one of their number was unable to play due to probelms at home so we'll call it 3-2 to The Ridge

Friendly game played today (6 April 2018) at Boughton Golf Club.

Played in the usual friendly manner and resulted in an honorable draw 3-3.

Considering the weather conditions we've had recently, their course is in remarkably good condition and a good day was had by all. Winners of nearest the pin were Terry Brister (3rd) and John Drogo(14th)

Unfortunately the AKVG match at Princes GC on 19 March was cancelled due to adverse weather. Just as well because it was absolutely freezing !
